Grand opening: Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian attended the launch of their new clothing store Dash in New York last night

She has a personal fortune of £25 million, has a over three million Facebook friends and can earn $50,000 simply by sending a tweet to her five million Twitter followers.

But the true extent of Kim Kardashian's fame was made clear last night as a special police task force had to be brought in to control overexcited crowds who were whipped into a frenzy by the star's mere presence.

The arrival of the 30-year-old with her sisters Khloe and Kourtney at the grand opening of their clothing boutique DASH in New York caused mayhem as fans scrambled for a glimpse of the famous family.

Police made arrests and issue summons at the scene as hundreds of Kardashian fans brought the Manhattan street to a standstill.

The sisters, used to the frenzied scenes that follow them, maintained their cool on the red carpet, posing together for photographers.

Kim stuck to her tried and tested uniform of tight and short, dazzling in a sequined mini dress that clung to her bankable curves.

Younger sister Khloe, 26, also showed off her legs in a short, belted turtle-neck dress and satin black pumps.

Oldest of the family Kourtney, 32, has transformed herself into something of a style maven of late, showing up her sisters in a series of less sexually appealing but far more high-fashion ensembles.

Last night was no different, as she impressed in a cropped jacket with oversize bow detailing, swishy skirt, leopard-print heels and sophisticated top-knot bun.

The sisters, stars of reality shows Keeping Up with the Kardashians and spin-off Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, also own DASH boutiques in Miami and Calabasas, California, where they also own children's boutique Smooch.

Kim and Kourtney temporarily moved to the East Coast as they prepared to open the New York DASH, which was of course chronicled for yet another reality show, Kourtney and Kim Take New York.
